This range is often based on historical statistics and is expressed in terms of standard deviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An investor&#8217;s goal is to maximize returns while minimizing volatility. In other words, their aim is to maximize the return\/risk ratio (Sharpe Ratio).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diversification, or buying multiple assets instead of just one, provides an opportunity to reduce risk, as demonstrated by the data presented. However, diversification only reduces specific risks (sector, company, project), while market risk remains beyond your control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine risk\/volatility as waves in the sea and your investment as throwing a rock into these waves. Your goal is to make the future as stable and predictable as possible, but you cannot control the stability of the waves (market risk). What you can control is the size and number of rocks you throw into the sea. If you throw your entire investment as one big rock, the waves will increase, making your investment riskier than just the market waves. However, if you break this rock into pebbles and throw them in such a way that their impact on the sea waves is minimal\u2026 and not because the volume (return) of the pebbles is smaller than the rock, but because each pebble partially cancels out the waves created by the others\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The graph below shows the risk range of randomly selected stocks from 2006-2010. You can see that the diversification mechanism works more strongly at the beginning, and its effect decreases as the number of stocks increases. It is considered that after 30 stocks, the effect of diversification becomes negligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also important to note that the effect of diversification is stronger the lower the correlation between the selected stocks (or other assets).
